A note from Caroline
This chain was carefully replicated from the antique one I wear every day. It's a turn-of-the-century watch chain from my own collection, and it hardly ever comes off. The design alternates long open links with short round ones, a pattern known as fetter or trombone link.
Original chains in this link are getting harder to find, and longer lengths are rarer still. Most survivors were made short to hang from a waistcoat. So I had mine replicated at 17 inches, a length that sits at the collarbone. Just like the original, the links are solid all the way through giving it a lovely heft. It's substantial without being too heavy, and it's a chain made to be worn every day.
As on the originals, there's a bolt clasp at one end and a dog clip at the other. That makes it easy to change how you wear it. Hang charms or a pendant from it, clip on a brooch, or add an extender for a longer length. It looks just as good worn on its own.
